The Portland/ Vancouver Chapter of Project Linus took part in two fairs this summer! The Linn Co Fair in Albany and the Clark Co. Fair in Vancouver. We made a total of 31 quilt tops doing 5 days at the Fair, 3 days at Linn Co and 2 days at Clark Co.. We used a whooping total of 558 novelty blocks!!
We talked to a lot of people as they sat and colored muslin squares for us. The best part is time and time again we had families come up to us to say that they had been recipients of a Project Linus Blanket. A father was heading out the door but came to our booth to say thanks for giving his premature sons blankets; a counselor from Crestline; a mother who had her 4month old baby with her that had received a blanket for her open heart surgery; a mom with two daughters who had received them and still had them, etc etc. What a wonderful feeling it was to listen to their stories knowing that our blanket helped.
On Sunday, a group of Fair Judges came by to see what we were up to. I explained Project Linus, gave them some facts and figures of our Chapter, told them some stores, etc. I asked them what they were doing and they said they were judging somewhere in the building. You can’t imagine our surprise when they came back and gave us an AWARD!!! Yes, the Portland/Vancouver Chapter is now AN AWARDING WINNING Chapter! It is a “Special Award” for Educational Excellence. As you can see in the picture, it is big, yellow and orange.
I want to publicly thank the volunteers who made both Fairs successful. They gave up several hours in travel, participation, etc. AND A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE 8” NOVELTY SQUARES. As you can tell we go through a lot of squares. I thank you ALL!
